- Student Spotlight
When I first started at Clark, I didn’t think I had a special interest. My whole life I never had that “one thing” I was interested in. I had always played soccer, studied hard, and been active, but I didn’t necessarily focus on one of these hobbies. Then, in fourth grade, we were all approached by Mrs. Chudzynski, the drama teacher. She told us that we had the opportunity to act in a play. I had never acted before, but the more I learned about it, the more I was interested. After I performed in that play, the more I wanted to chase opportunities like this. I loved the shine of the light on my face as I delivered lines to a captive audience.
The next year, I tried out for the play again and made it. The great thing is, there’s a part for everyone. Mrs. Chudzynski won't leave anyone out. Through this amazing program, I was able to grow as an actor and as a person. One of the roles that helped me to grow the most was Mark Twain.
During my sixth grade year, we were told that we could audition for The Trial of Tom Sawyer. I remember during auditions how much I wanted the role of Tom Sawyer. I thought I had it in the bag. On the day that the cast list came out, I raced to the bulletin board. I searched for my name as my eyes skimmed the paper. And then I found it, my eyes glued to the paper as I saw the role I had been assigned before me: Mark Twain. I was confused ... I wanted the role of Tom Sawyer. When I came to rehearsal I wasn’t expecting much, a few lines here and there. But, as I read the script, I realized I was wrong. This role was the main character, the one I had always wanted.
That’s when I understood that the teachers know their students better than the students know themselves. The teachers at Clark are always looking out for what is best for the students. At Clark, there are so many extracurricular activities that could be the best fit for you. Without the opportunity that I was given by being introduced to theatre, I would never have stepped into the world of performing arts. Since acting in school plays, I have joined other youth theatre programs in the area. Clark allows students to fulfill their talents to the best of their abilities, and that is something that not many schools can achieve.
