Health and Safety

At The Stanley Clark School, the health and safety of students comes first. The school practices emergency drills regularly; complies with all fire and safety regulations; maintains an emergency response plan; and welcomes routine visits from the South Bend Police Department.

School Nurse

The school community enjoys a full time nurse situated in a professional-grade clinician’s office and who ensures the school’s health compliance with the State of Indiana. School health practices are guided by professional organizations such as the National Association of School Nurses, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control, and FAAN.

Jackie Scheel helps to manage student health concerns and to ensure a safe environment for all students. She frequently visits classrooms to check on students with chronic medical issues or those who have recently recovered from an illness. Mrs. Scheel knows each and every student with a medical issue, and supports students and families in a kind, compassionate, and professional way. To reach Mrs. Scheel, email [email protected] or call 574.291.4200.

Food Allergies

The Stanley Clark School takes food allergies seriously and is committed to protecting students with severe food allergies by limiting possible food allergens entering the school. Keeping students safe involves the whole community: students with food allergies and their classmates, parents, faculty, staff and guests. Since students bring snack and lunch to school, it is essential for the community to remain vigilant about keeping peanuts and tree nuts from allergic students.

Grades preschool through 4th grade are entirely peanut/tree nut free. This means that items containing peanuts, walnuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, hazelnuts, pine nuts, macadamia nuts or other tree nuts may not be brought to school for snacks, lunches, field trips, or any event.

Students in 5th through 8th grade may include the above mentioned nuts in snacks and lunches; however, students are requested to wash hands and wipe desks after lunch to ensure that peanut/tree nut residue is not left on desks, as the residue may put allergic students at risk of exposure and a medical emergency.

More information about the food guidelines, and the responsibilities of the student, classmates, parents and school is available through the parent portal.
