When I was in sixth grade, I decided to join the competitive volleyball team. I wanted to try it because some of my friends were doing it and they were all so supportive of each other in practice. I had been playing volleyball for a long time and I was ready to try something new and to play competitively. During the week, our coach was looking at our skills to see which team we would be on. I was trying to do my best in practice so I could be on the A team. Every day, I would try to come to practice with a good attitude, and always be ready to play some volleyball.
We eventually got to pick out our jerseys and I picked number 19. When the week came, I was extremely nervous to see what team I was on, but all the competitive players were supporting each other and saying that I’d do great. As soon as the teams were up everyone went running over to see what team they got and I saw that I was on the A team!
I was so happy and so excited for practice to start. When we had our first practice, the A team players were all extremely supportive of each other and made others feel okay if they missed a serve. When our first game came around we were all ready to play and show our coach that we deserved to be on A team. I can't even remember if we won, but even if we didn't, my team was so encouraging to everyone.
I will remember this moment forever because I had never been on a competitive team before and it turned out to be really fun. I will also remember this moment because of how nice and supportive everyone was on my team. I would have never thought that I would be on A team. I am so glad that I decided to try something new! Now I really enjoy playing volleyball and plan to play in high school.
